The Ministry of Education (MOE) established the International Cooperation Initiatives Unit (UICI) in 2005 in order to facilitate its objective of improving the quality and equity of education while recognizing the impact of globalization on this sector. Trinidad and Tobago has ranked education as the top national priority for achieving its goal of fully developed country status by 2020. The UICI is committed to deepening the thrust of the MOE to build its portfolio in respect of bi-lateral and multi-lateral cooperation in education.
This Unit is the first point of contact for agencies and organizations wishing to partner with the Ministry. Currently, the UICI is working on cooperation initiatives with the Organisation of American States (OAS), the Commonwealth, CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) among others.
The horizontal cooperation emerging from these initiatives supports the MOE’s vision of Excellence in Education.
